BounceBit permanently shuts down its mainnet and migrates tokens to BNB Chain
According to a report (August 25, 2026), Bitcoin restaking and crypto yield platform BounceBit announced that, after being hacked, it will permanently shut down its independent Layer 1 mainnet and fully relocate to BNB Chain.
The attacker exploited an authorization vulnerability within the Evmos technology stack. Within about 5 hours and through 14 transactions, they transferred approximately 286.5 million $BB (worth about $3 million) from 9 accounts. No private keys, signatures, or wallets were leaked. CeDeFi Strategy, Promo Vaults, Prime, and RWA products were not affected. The network stopped producing blocks about 40 minutes after the final unauthorized transfer.
Next steps:
BounceBit has decided not to repair or upgrade the existing chain (since Evmos has been discontinued and the rebuild cost is too high), and instead will permanently sunset the mainnet. Using the pre-attack snapshot (block height approximately 20,697,260), $BB will be reissued on BNB Chain in the BEP-20 format. The tokens the attacker took will not be included in the new circulating supply. Balances of legitimate holders (including portions that are staked and in the unlocked process) will automatically be restored, with no need for users to apply themselves.$BNB
