Towns co-founders Ben and Pat said they have completed the transfer of protocol operations to the Towns Foundation in Switzerland after five years of building the project with Brian. According to ChainCatcher, the protocol will continue to operate as a decentralized communications network supporting on-chain community ownership, end-to-end encrypted messaging, programmable identity, and native value transfer.

The team said Towns has surpassed 1.6 million users and 400,000 communities, and users earned more than $40 million through the protocol in 2025. It also said the protocol has been listed on several major exchanges and supports real-time messaging, payments, governance, and $TOWNS network incentives.

Ben and Pat said they chose to hand the protocol to a new team rather than shut it down as market conditions changed. They said the foundation is expected to advance Towns at the intersection of decentralized communications and AI, while Pat and Ben move on to new ventures and continue supporting the transition on a part-time basis.
