I read the whitepaper carefully twice—the 2024 edition. The chapters on the consensus mechanism were quite proper. But what kept me turning it over and over was how privacy and compliance could be made to work together.
Dusk’s approach is actually quite clever. Phoenix handles zero-knowledge privacy-preserving transfers, while Moonlight handles a transparent ledger. Each system does its own job, and they don’t get in each other’s way. Citadel is even better—you want to prove you’re a qualified investor? You don’t need to hand over your ID and property deed. Just generate a zero-knowledge proof. The other side knows you’re qualified, but not who you specifically are.

Then the XSC contract directly writes the transfer restrictions, voting rights, and dividend rules into the transaction logic. Compliance doesn’t have to hang outside the chain as a decorative item—assets can govern themselves. It sounds not that complicated, right?
But the problem is buried deeper—once you stack multiple layers of rules onto financial products, and privacy wraps every operation inside, can you still verify that every rule is executed honestly and correctly? No matter how beautifully the whitepaper is written, what really matters is whether this setup can withstand the real-world chaos of business flows.
This year, on January 7th, the mainnet is already running. On the NPEX side, tokenized securities worth 300 million euros are lining up to go live. But the knot in my mind still hasn’t been untied:
