#dusk $DUSK I reviewed the public data since @Dusk mainnet went live. Block times have been stable, transaction confirmations haven’t had major issues, and the 39 fixes from the AEGIS hard fork were completed smoothly. The official wording is "stable operation," and from the surface metrics, there really isn’t much to criticize.
But what I care about is another dimension: what standard are we using to judge "stable"?
If we only look at whether there have been outages, forks, or rollbacks, then yes, it has met the bar. But for a chain positioned for compliant financial use cases, stability should not just mean "it hasn’t stopped." Do transactions lag under high load? When private and public transactions are mixed, is the ordering predictable? Has the consistency of validator behavior under stress scenarios been tested? None of that can be answered by saying "there haven’t been problems."
I noticed that the node distribution data has still not been fully independently verified by a third party. The official explorer shows the number of nodes, but it does not clearly disclose which hosting providers they use, which regions they are in, or whether they are concentrated in just a few data centers. If one-third of the nodes are running with the same cloud provider in the same availability zone, then "decentralization" is just a number on paper.
There’s also the penalty mechanism. Since mainnet launch, how many soft penalties have actually been triggered? For what reasons? Which nodes were affected? This data is crucial for evaluating network security. It may be on-chain, but ordinary users, and even most stakers, may not know where to look or how to interpret it.
I understand that publishing this data takes time, and I also understand the team is busy iterating. But transparency is not something to say "later" about after launch; it is part of the infrastructure itself. An institutional user doing technical due diligence would not just look at TPS and block time; they would ask about node distribution, penalty history, and stress test reports.
I’m not saying mainnet is doing badly. Getting a Layer 1 that supports both public and private transactions to run at all is not easy. The 39 AEGIS fixes also show the team is seriously maintaining the underlying system.
But there is a gap between "it runs" and "it runs in a way that inspires confidence": transparency.
When #dusk publishes an independent geographic report on node distribution, stress test results, penalty event details, and third-party uptime monitoring, then I’ll take "stable operation" seriously.
