Guterres said the United Nations has formed a task force to address the Strait of Hormuz crisis and plans to establish a UN-coordinated mechanism for registration, verification, monitoring, and de-escalation, with an initial focus on fertilizer and related raw material shipments. He said the mechanism will not change any country's sovereign rights or replace the political efforts needed to restore freedom of navigation and resolve conflicts, but it can serve as a practical first step to reduce risks, secure essential shipments, and rebuild trust.
