Mining the anonymous coin Zcash is four times more profitable than Bitcoin and the computing needs for AI
The profitability of mining the largest cryptocurrency in the private sector, Zcash (ZEC), has exceeded Bitcoin mining output by 4.5 times and surpassed earnings from providing computing power for artificial intelligence. This was reported by The Energy Mag amid the rise of ZEC’s price to a multi-year record of $890 per coin.
On the evening of August 23, the Zcash (ZEC) rate broke a record that had held since 2017, reaching about $890 depending on the crypto exchange. The nearest local peak was in 2017 at around $800. And in 2025, amid active ZEC growth, the price attempted to rise above $750. The historical price peak varies depending on the exchange, but exceeds several thousand dollars. On Bitfinex, for example, the peak is around $2.6k per ZEC.
According to the publication, mining Zcash (ZEC) on Bitmain Antminer Z15 Pro devices brings in about $727 in revenue per megawatt-hour of electricity. That’s approximately 3.3 times higher than the industry’s estimated average return for high-performance computing (HPC), which is $222 per MWh.
In addition, the Z15 Pro generates about 4.5 times the revenue of the $162 earned by using Bitmain’s latest-generation Bitcoin miner, the Antminer S23 Pro. And more than seven times the $102 obtained from the S21 Pro model.
