IT Home, August 24: According to sources confirmed to Axios, the well-known AI researcher Luke Metz has joined Meta’s Superintelligence Labs.

Metz is the latest top researcher to have switched between multiple competing top AI labs, driven by an ongoing battle for AI talent.

Metz left OpenAI in 2024 to join Thinking Machines, founded by Mira Murati. Earlier this year, he rejoined OpenAI.

Metz will begin work at Meta this week, reporting to Alexandr Wang, who leads the company’s AI business. Meta has rolled out several new models in recent months.

IT Home noted that the news of his joining was first disclosed in a post on the X platform by user ArfurGrok, who previously had accurately leaked multiple personnel developments in the AI field.

This is Meta’s latest major hiring push. Since Meta invested tens of billions of dollars to enter into an agreement with Scale AI and allowed its former CEO Alexandr Wang to join the company, it has been recruiting talent at massive scale.
