A wildfire near Reno in northern Nevada spread rapidly on the morning of August 23, burning more than 10,500 acres and prompting mandatory evacuation orders for nearly 14,000 households. According to Sina Finance, Reno fire officials said strong gusts, low humidity, and dry vegetation were fueling the blaze.

About 400 personnel are currently involved in firefighting efforts, with local, state, and federal agencies deploying ground and air resources. Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve urged residents who received evacuation notices to leave immediately and said some buildings had already been destroyed.

As of August 23, nearly 10,000 homes and businesses in Washoe County were without power, and parts of U.S. Highway 395 were closed because of the fire. Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has declared a state of emergency in Washoe County.

Earlier this month, three wildfires north of Reno, driven by hot, dry, and windy weather, forced more than 13,000 residents to evacuate.
