$SPK $XRP $DOT Hormuz standoff drives oil prices higher, and Bitcoin’s “two-sided plot” is unfolding
With the Strait of Hormuz effectively stalled and entering a stalemate, global crude inventories have fallen again, sending oil prices up sharply. Once this most important global energy choke point (moving roughly 21 million barrels of crude oil per day) is obstructed, the consequences won’t stop at gas stations—it will directly feed into hotter inflation expectations, thereby constraining the Federal Reserve’s room to cut rates and becoming a macro-level negative for risk assets. But Bitcoin’s performance is never driven by a single factor.
This script has two sides:
On the one hand, higher oil prices push inflation up → rate cuts get delayed → expectations for tighter liquidity build → equities and risk assets such as crypto face pressure. Last week, Bitcoin was violently driven up from $64,000 to $79,300; behind it was liquidity support from the U.S. Treasury expanding long-term bond buybacks to suppress yields. If sustained oil-price increases disrupt the Fed’s rhythm, this support could weaken.
On the other hand, the tighter geopolitics get, the stronger the “digital gold” safe-haven narrative for Bitcoin becomes. When traditional shipping routes are obstructed and fiat systems are eroded by inflation, decentralized, borderless crypto assets can instead become a refuge for some capital. Over the past week, the U.S.-Iran situation has swung back and forth, yet Bitcoin has not fallen—it has risen. That already shows the market’s recognition of this logic.
Overall, rising oil prices create a structure that is short-term bearish and medium-term bullish for the crypto market: in the short run, it weighs on liquidity expectations; in the medium run, it strengthens safe-haven demand. For ordinary traders, closely tracking the linkage between oil prices and BTC is more meaningful than simply betting on direction. As long as the Hormuz standoff remains unresolved, this line of logic will keep existing.
