#dusk $DUSK Last week, a friend asked me whether DUSK can be chased (i.e., whether it has momentum). I fired back with an on-chain screenshot: the top five addresses hold 66.31% of the supply—#1 has 21.64%, #2 has 21.21%. He went silent for five seconds and said, “This is even more concentrated than some dirt-cheap meme coins.”
It’s harsh, but it doesn’t misrepresent DUSK. It’s not that big holders’ positions automatically mean a sell-off. It’s that, with this kind of token-ownership structure, the so-called “institution-level infrastructure” token pricing power simply isn’t in the hands of the secondary market. Circulating supply is 497 million units, the staking rate is 36%, and the Provisioner threshold is 1,000 tokens. The threshold doesn’t sound high—but the Succinct Attestation mechanism selects committees based on staking-weight plus VRF. Big holders delegate, their returns compound, and going offline only pauses rewards rather than immediately slashing. This design is so friendly to whales it’s almost unbelievable. Retail stakers can only passively get diluted by inflation, and even their “power” to participate in consensus gets effectively overridden by weighted voting.
What’s even more worrying is the committee members’ Epoch repetition rate. If it stays above 40% long-term, “decentralized settlement” is just a polite way of saying it’s custodial—hosted with multi-sig cloud providers. Among the hundreds of Provisioners, how many are independent physical nodes and how many are mass-deployed on AWS? No one publishes the numbers, but anyone who understands operations knows.
Another hard flaw is liquidity. On the DEX side, depth was once only around the $100k range. The top five holders can move around and easily push the price down through several percentage points. With liquidity like that, discussing tokenization of RWA and institutional settlement is like trying to drive a heavy truck onto a narrow bridge—maybe it can work in theory, but nobody dares to press the gas. DUSK’s unlock schedule and node decentralization progress are two slow variables you must watch closely. If, in the next six months, the top five’s share drops below 40% and independent Provisioners double, then that would actually indicate the tokens are truly more dispersed. Otherwise, even if the NPEX narrative sounds louder, retail investors who jump in are just running alongside—not in control.
