📚 Lesson 2 of 10

❓ What is blockchain? And why is it so hard to fake?

Imagine a ledger that contains every transaction that happened from day one — but instead of that ledger being only at the bank, there’s a copy of it on thousands of devices around the world, and they all verify every new line before it’s recorded.

That’s blockchain. Transactions are grouped into “blocks” (pages), and each block is linked to the one before it with a cryptographic digital fingerprint — that’s why it’s called a chain of blocks.

Why is tampering difficult? If someone changes even a single character in an old block, its fingerprint changes too, and the chain breaks at that point. Then thousands of other devices immediately reject the altered copy because it doesn’t match theirs. In other words, forging requires controlling most of the network at the same time — and in large networks, that’s so costly that it becomes pointless.

And this technology goes far beyond money: property records, shipment tracking, certificates — anything that needs a record that can’t be tampered with.

📌 Summary: Blockchain is a distributed ledger across thousands of devices — tampering with one page requires tampering with every copy at the same moment.
