26 August – St. Zephyrinus
Pope & Martyr

St. Zephyrinus served as the 15th Pope of the Catholic Church from around 199 to 217 AD. He guided the early Church during a period of doctrinal challenges, particularly against heresies concerning the nature of Christ and the Trinity. Known for his firm defense of orthodox faith, he appointed St. Callistus as his deacon and successor. Tradition holds that he suffered martyrdom under the persecution of Emperor Severus or Caracalla. He is remembered as a steadfast shepherd who protected the integrity of the faith in Rome.

“Hold fast to the tradition of the Apostles.”
A quiet but resolute Pope who guarded the deposit of faith in times of confusion — reminding us that fidelity to the truth is the greatest service a shepherd can offer the Church.

Lord Jesus, through the intercession of St. Zephyrinus, grant our Holy Father and all bishops courage to defend the faith, wisdom in teaching, and perseverance amid trials.
