The court rules that Sun Yuchen’s individual claims will continue to be heard in open court, and that the portion of WLFI’s claim will remain pending negotiation
U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has ruled that all of the individual claims brought by Sun Yuchen will continue to be heard in open court, but it did not support WLFI’s request to have all company-related claims submitted to arbitration. The court ordered the parties to further negotiate which company claims will remain in court and which will enter the arbitration process.
Sun Yuchen accuses WLFI of using smart contract permissions to freeze tokens he purchased with $45 million, with damages amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars. WLFI co-founder Zach Witkoff, however, said that Sun Yuchen’s statements regarding the outcome of the hearing include multiple false statements, claiming that Sun had packaged the claim that “the individual matter will remain in court for the time being” as a victory.
First Digital CEO Vincent Chok responded that Sun Yuchen’s statements about FDUSD are seriously misleading, and that Sun has not produced any evidence in court to support the related allegations to date.
First Digital filed a defamation lawsuit against Sun Yuchen in Hong Kong in April 2025.
