On August 23, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse posted that this week he attended the first meeting of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Innovation Advisory Committee in Washington, D.C. Garlinghouse said the attendees were practically an “Olympic lineup in the crypto space,” bringing together many traditional finance (TradFi) giants such as Nasdaq, CME, CBOE, OCC, the New York Stock Exchange, and DTCC. He noted that all parties agreed that rules designed for the old era no longer apply to today’s consumers, enterprises, and innovations. Since his 2019 letter to Congress, the industry’s demand for clear regulatory rules has continued to this day, and under the push of the Trump administration, the relevant appointed officials, and leaders in Congress, the current distance to achieving regulatory clarity is “unprecedentedly close.”
