Solana network announced a reduction in slot time to 350 milliseconds, the first such cut since the network’s launch, according to Jacob Creech, Vice President of Technology at the Solana Foundation.
Simply put, a slot is the time frame during which block production and data processing are organized. The shorter its duration, the more the network can reduce response time and speed up transaction confirmations.
Creech said via the X platform:
«We are in the new 350ms era… and the next stop is 300ms.»
The network’s original goal was 400 milliseconds, while tracker data points to an average of about 360 milliseconds at the time the update was published.
Most importantly, this step isn’t the end. In June, the Solana Foundation revealed a phased plan to ultimately reach 200 milliseconds, across four stages, with an additional 50-millisecond reduction in each stage.
The proposed SIMD-0525 was also adopted, laying the groundwork for reducing Slot time, and was merged in May.
What does that mean for the user?
Less time between transaction processing and confirmation, faster network responsiveness—which could enhance the experience of decentralized applications, especially those that require rapid execution.
350ms today… 300ms on the way… and the final goal 200ms.
Solana continues to push the speed limits.
