AI-generated content feature films are rapidly entering a new stage of series development and continuous supply.

On August 21, the AIGC web story film series “Floating Life Dream” of (Soul Ferry) produced by iQIYI and Changxin Media was officially scheduled. The series consists of three AIGC feature-length films: (Soul Ferry · Butterfly Dream) (Soul Ferry · Heavenly Maiden’s Dream) (Soul Ferry · Princess’s Dream). Each film is over an hour long. The first two will premiere exclusively on iQIYI at 10:00 AM on August 22, and the third will be released later.

As a classic homegrown original IP, “Soul Ferry” is rooted in Chinese classical culture, blending mythological legends, folklore tales of the strange, urban life, and real-world issues into one. It has already released multiple content formats, including long-form TV series, online films, musical theater, and premium short dramas. This “Floating Life Dream” AIGC web story film series will further complete the timeline of the “Lingbai Universe,” focusing on the journey of the “Lingbai Iron Triangle,” tracing back to the beginning where the fates of Zhao Li, Xia Dongqing, and Ya intertwined, and uncovering the untold stories of their pasts.

Among them, (Soul Ferry: Butterfly Dream) tells the story of itinerant monk Wuming and herdsman Dongqing, who, driven by a kind heart, enter the Butterfly Valley and uncover a tangled mystery of good and evil that leaves one with a sense of melancholy. (Soul Ferry: Dream of the Heavenly Maiden) tells how Wuming and Dongqing get drawn into an enmity-filled battle centered on the Nine Heavens Xuan Nu Ya, and together embark on an adventure to break the sorcery and save the heavenly maiden.

The AIGC network storytelling film series (Soul Ferry) “Floating Life Dream” has Guo Jingyu as art director, Xiao Jixiangtian as screenwriter, Ding Kuan as director, and Li Zhichao as producer. To recreate the youthful “trio” image in the “Lingbai Universe,” after obtaining artist likeness authorization, the original cast—Yi Yihou, Liu Zhiyang, and Xiao Yin—provided live-action dubbing, and role performances were completed by combining motion transfer technology.

The film’s art director, Guo Jingyu, stated that this series of movies using AI technology has a direct connection to the film’s plot setting and cultural expression. (Soul Ferry: Butterfly Dream) delves into the butterfly elements in Chinese mythology and literature, and through AI production transforms Zhuang Zhou’s philosophical imagery of dreaming of a butterfly into a dazzling world of butterfly shadows. (Soul Ferry: Dream of the Heavenly Maiden) further innovates in the Eastern narrative expression of “dream,” exploring the truth of life by shaping multiple layers of dreamscapes. During the release of the two films, the creative team will gather for “iQIYI Live: Let’s Chat Together,” watching and exchanging viewing experiences with the audience.

From (Strange Tales: Paper Blade Traverses the Wilderness) to the (Soul Ferry) “Floating Life Dream” series, iQIYI has, within one month, brought an AIGC network storytelling film network from “first certified and released” to “two consecutive new releases,” forming a sustained supply of AI feature-length films. As AI continues to be further integrated into the creation of feature-length films, iQIYI, together with partners such as Changxin Media and many other creators of film and television content, also keeps exploring more diverse ways of content expression and IP development, offering audiences more options to watch premium AI film and television feature-length works.
