The Sandbox states that the team has discovered and fully controlled the cross-chain bridge vulnerability for SAND on Base and BNB Smart Chain (BSC). Previously, the attacker minted unbacked SAND on both chains, affecting an amount of less than 0.01% of the total SAND supply. Currently, the bidirectional cross-chain functionality on both Base and BSC has been suspended. The affected SAND cannot be transferred or redeemed. The Sandbox reminds users not to buy, sell, or trade SAND on these two chains. The Sandbox emphasizes that SAND on Ethereum and Polygon is unaffected, and users’ wallets have not been compromised. The Ethereum escrow assets used to support all cross-chain SAND remain intact. The team is working, based on a snapshot taken before the incident, to develop a compensation plan for eligible users of the affected liquidity pools, and will publish a complete incident report and technical post-mortem in due course.
