NETHERMIND LEAVES LAYERZERO AND SHIFTS CROSS-CHAIN ACTIVITY TO CHAINLINK ⚡
Nethermind, a prominent development and research team within the Ethereum ecosystem, has decided to stop operating a LayerZero DVN and shift its cross-chain activity to Chainlink CCIP.
DVNs, or Decentralized Verifier Networks, are independent entities responsible for verifying information transmitted between blockchains through LayerZero. As a result, Nethermind’s departure is not simply a technical partner change; it also signals a shift in how a major infrastructure team is choosing its cross-chain technology.
According to Nethermind, this is a long-term decision. The team will become a Chainlink node operator and technology partner, while focusing its cross-chain operations on CCIP.
The reasoning behind the move is particularly notable. As blockchain adoption expands across financial applications, demand for moving assets and data between multiple networks is also increasing. In this environment, cross-chain infrastructure is no longer limited to DeFi and is becoming an important foundational layer for on-chain financial systems.
Nethermind’s move also sends a notable signal in the competition among interoperability solutions. LayerZero continues to have a large ecosystem, but the decision by an Ethereum-focused team such as Nethermind to shift its focus toward Chainlink suggests that reliability, operational performance and suitability for financial applications may become increasingly important.
However, one team’s decision does not mean Chainlink has surpassed LayerZero across the entire market. Cross-chain competition will still depend on real-world adoption, security and scalability.
Could Nethermind’s move signal that Chainlink CCIP is becoming increasingly preferred for on-chain financial infrastructure?
