According to a CoinDesk report, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has issued a security alert warning that a sophisticated phishing attack targeting U.S. cryptocurrency holders is currently underway. The attacker forges an official-looking letter impersonating the IRS (the letter claims to be based on the “Digital Asset Compliance Portal” and Form 1099-DA filings) and includes a QR code. Once the victim uses a phone to scan the QR code in the letter, the attacker will attempt to steal their crypto wallet credentials and private keys.
