🇧🇷BRASÍLIA — The Gross Debt of the General Government (DBGG) closed the year 2025 representing 78.7% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the Central Bank reported this Friday (30). The data confirms the trend of fiscal deterioration observed over the last twelve months and places additional pressure on the economic team to meet the goals of the fiscal framework in 2026.
The result represents a significant advance compared to the closing of 2024, when the debt was at a lower level. According to the monetary authority, the increase is largely explained by the high interest expense (appropriation of nominal interest) and the net issuance of public securities necessary to finance the budget deficit.
