#dusk $DUSK Someone asked me: what exactly is the difference between DUSK and Monero and Zcash? They’re all about privacy—so why does it dare to tell an institutional story? I’ve put all three side by side and looked at them for a long time. The answer is one word: opposite direction. The Monero people want to “hide it so well that nobody can see it.” DUSK wants to “hide it so that the people who should be able to see it can.” $SNDKB
Monero’s privacy is defensive, adversarial. It assumes everyone—including regulators—is an enemy, with the goal of making transactions completely untraceable. This approach is very pure in cryptography terms, but it also effectively pins itself in the gray zone: exchanges take it down one after another, and institutions won’t even touch it. It earns the trust of hardcore geeks but loses the entry ticket of compliance. $SPCXB
DUSK takes a completely different path: using a trading model like Phoenix and selective disclosure mechanisms to deliver privacy for the public day to day, while being able to provide compliant proofs to regulators when necessary. It’s not trying to eliminate visibility—it’s trying to precisely control “who can see what, under what conditions.” Hedger puts lightweight proofs into browser-local generation so this privacy can run in real scenarios, not just remain in papers.
This difference determines that their ceilings grow in different places. Monero’s value anchor is the hard necessity of anti-censorship; DUSK’s value anchor is the NPEX license, MTF credentials, and €300M of security tokenization—it’s betting on a much larger market segment for “compliant institutional capital” than the gray-area demand. The risks also match: Monero’s technology has been validated, while DUSK’s narrative is still largely stuck in the stage of “soon to be realized.”
So I won’t judge DUSK by the standards of Monero. The former compares “the purity of privacy,” and the latter compares whether the narrow path of “privacy + compliance” can truly be walked through. On this road, there’s no precedent. If it succeeds, it will be a one-of-a-kind moat; if it fails, it won’t satisfy either side. My takeaway still stands: once compliant privacy truly gets connected to its first real piece of institutional-grade business, I’ll recognize that this story is valid. #dusk @Dusk
