What if the blockchain is secure but the thing moving your assets around it isn’t?
That question changed how I looked at Dusk’s January 2026 bridge incident.

The protocol itself wasn’t compromised.
A bridge signing wallet was.

And that distinction is easy to miss.

The more I dug into the post-mortem, the more interesting the architecture became.

The issue wasn’t simply “a wallet got hacked.” The deeper problem was how much authority was concentrated around the bridge’s operational flow.

Dusk’s redesign separates signing from event handling, decouples event ingestion from fund release, introduces explicit transaction states, limits hot-wallet exposure and isolates the bridge service.

That made me rethink blockchain security.

We usually ask whether the chain can be attacked.

But for users, there’s another question that may matter just as much:

How much authority exists outside the chain, and what happens when one part of it fails?
