China's Ministry of Commerce said on August 20 that imports rose 22% in the first seven months of the year and increased from more than 150 trade partners, according to Jiemian News. Spokesperson He Yadong said the figures showed the continued release of the potential of China's large market and reflected its resilience and vitality.
He said policies to expand imports were taking effect as China steadily widened voluntary and unilateral opening-up. Imports from Africa rose 23.5% year on year in May and June, while imports of avocados, apples and oranges increased 130%, 89.6% and 27.9%, respectively. He also said the “Export to China” campaign has held more than 40 events at home and abroad so far, helping products from nearly 100 countries expand their presence in China. The ministry plans to continue combining policy support and promotional events and to coordinate the campaign with the China International Import Expo and the China International Consumer Products Expo.
