#termmax @TermMax Brothers, today let’s talk about something that’s easy to misunderstand.

I’ve noticed that when many people see the words "fixed interest rate," their brains immediately equate it to "guaranteed profit with no downside." That’s a pretty big misconception. TermMax locks in the cost and term at the moment you take out the loan—it’s not like once you enter, you just win and lie back.

I specifically studied the three-generation token structure of @TermMax . FT is basically a zero-coupon bond: you buy it at a discount and it redeems at par at maturity, so the return is determined at the time you enter. XT is the side that earns the interest. GT is tied to the collateral—its value is directly linked to collateral price fluctuations. Sounds great, right? But here’s the interesting part: even if the collateral price drops, liquidation still gets triggered. And when market depth isn’t enough, slippage can wipe you out. None of these risks are absent—it's just that the selling point of the interest rate being locked tends to hide them.

I’ve also fallen for something similar before. I saw the numbers on the protocol page looked beautiful and jumped in. Then when it came time to actually exit, I realized that the deeper you go into a Range Order, the further your actual cost can deviate from the first-tier quote. Whether the lender chooses to hold to maturity or sell midway makes a huge difference in what you ultimately receive.

So in my view, the real meaning of a fixed interest rate is this: it removes interest rate as a variable first, so you can assess other risks on your own instead of having risk somehow glossed over. What I’m focusing on now is the real depth of same-term FT, the borrowing/lending price spread, and whether there are actually buyers to take the position off when everyone tries to exit early and in a concentrated way. Looking good in the data is not as solid as having real continuous trades at that price.

Lastly, I’ll leave you with a question: the term is locked, but the exit price isn’t—what do you care about more?
