Digital boom in the Kingdom: Saudi Arabia records tremendous growth in blockchain companies, while the Public Investment Fund is studying “asset tokenization”
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is witnessing a radical shift in the landscape of digital assets, as the country recorded an astonishing 51% increase in the number of registered commercial companies operating in “blockchain” technology during 2025, bringing the total to more than 4,000 companies, according to recent reports.
This growth is not limited to companies alone, but also extends to a broad base of active investors, as the Kingdom currently hosts nearly 3 million cryptocurrency investors.
In a step that reflects the strategic direction of integrating emerging technologies into the traditional economy, the Public Investment Fund (PIF) is studying the development of “real-world asset tokenization” (Real-World Asset Tokenization - RWA). The aim is to convert part of its massive assets—especially in the real estate and energy sectors—into encrypted digital tokens on the blockchain, making them easier to liquidate and fractionalize, and opening new avenues for investment.
Experts emphasize that these developments, along with the establishment of the first asset tokenization center, place Saudi Arabia at the heart of digital expansion in the Middle East region, demonstrating seriousness in leveraging these technologies to achieve a digital economic transformation.
