Cantor Fitzgerald said it will open trading access to prediction market platform Kalshi for institutional investors, offering event contract trading to about 3,000 clients, including family offices and hedge funds. According to Odaily, the firm will act as a broker to arrange block trades for institutional customers so they can trade Kalshi's yes-or-no contracts tied to real-world event outcomes.
The contracts cover areas including weather forecasts, commodity moves, and corporate results. Kalshi is a CFTC-regulated event trading platform that lets users place contracts on whether specific events will occur, including economic data, policy changes, weather conditions, and business events.
The move marks another step by traditional financial firms into the prediction market sector. Supporters say prediction markets can reflect collective expectations through market prices and provide hedging tools for companies and investment firms, while regulators and some market participants continue to question the boundary between prediction markets and gambling.
