The first time I saw Dusk do DuskEVM again, my reaction was very direct: with so many EVM chains in the market already, why build another one?
After digging into the documentation, I finally understood that its purpose isn’t to replace Dusk’s native L1. Instead, it provides a familiar entry point for Solidity, Foundry, Hardhat, and existing wallets.
When applications execute on DuskEVM, settlement and data availability return to DuskDS. When privacy is needed, they then go through Hedger to reach the confidential EVM flow.
It’s like a bank keeps its own general ledger system, while offering standard interfaces to external developers. Institutions don’t need to start from scratch to learn an entirely new language, and Dusk doesn’t have to give up its native settlement and privacy paths.
That said, I will strictly distinguish between architectural value and readily adopted convenience. On the official site, DuskEVM and Hedger are still labeled as Testnet, while Dusk Trade is marked as Building.
Solidity compatibility can only reduce the cost of the first step—it can’t automatically bring auditability, liquidity, or users. Going forward, I care more about mainnet timing, the security model of the bridges, the first batch of applications, and the exit experience after assets move across layers.
