Bitcoin keeps showing growth, but still lags behind the stock market. The share of trading sessions in which Bitcoin outperformed the S&P index by momentum was only one-third over the past three months.
Although the 2026 bear market by August has not seen stress on the scale of the FTX collapse, experts describe the current period as one of the toughest in the history of the crypto market.
More than five crypto exchanges and a hundred other crypto companies have shut down, and Bitcoin miners are mass-switching to servicing AI needs. Retail crypto traders, and even the crypto exchanges themselves, have shifted their focus to trading shares of traditional companies—something that was hard to imagine in past cycles.
At the same time, the current cycle since 2024 is considered one of the most positive in terms of institutional adoption and regulation of cryptocurrencies, due to the approval of Bitcoin-based exchange-traded funds in early 2024 and the arrival of a new administration at the start of 2025.
Experts noted that "Bitcoin shows the best performance in terms of growth rate, but over the years this excess return gradually decreases."
