$SAMSUNG Simply explain the logic behind shorting Samsung, and why I’ve been bearish on the Korean stock market and the memory sector for the long term.
Samsung is a major South Korean conglomerate. Its core businesses include Samsung Electronics—memory chips, display panels, mobile phones and home appliances, as well as power batteries. The group also has interests in shipbuilding/heavy industry, finance, construction, and many other fields. There’s no need to go on about its background and strength—within the entire Korean stock market, it directly influences overall market trends.
The recent rally is largely driven by the “Korea bull market” sentiment and the repeated hot炒 (hot trading) in the memory sector, which has helped push prices up.
Bearish on the memory sector: the earlier run-up and overly high enthusiasm mean good news is likely to be realized quickly. The market is too dependent on AI demand; meanwhile, traditional end markets remain weak. On top of that, memory leaders expanding production, along with domestic competitor CXMT’s released capacity, will create supply pressure. Valuations are stretched. A pullback is inevitable.
Last night, I shorted Samsung and SK hynix (Hailis) because after the opening, SanDisk’s price immediately showed a crash-type move. A large number of long positions took profit and exited. After being affected by that, I—along with my brothers and on my own account—added heavy positions to short Samsung and SK hynix. In the short term, both have already doubled. For the long run, I can hold until 160 and also keep an eye on the level around 1000. $SKHYNIX
