According to JPX, Yonhap and HKET, Asian index futures fell across the board in the overnight session after a sharp selloff in U.S. semiconductor shares, a spike in long-dated Treasury yields and a more than 2% jump in oil prices on renewed Middle East tensions weighed on risk sentiment.
Nikkei 225 futures for September delivery ended the Osaka Exchange night session at 66,060, down 1,480 points or 2.19%, after opening at 67,430 and printing a session low of 66,060 on volume of 10,791 contracts. The Nikkei 225 mini September contract closed the night at 66,045, down 1,500 points.
In Korea, the KOSPI 200 night futures fell 4.29%, pointing to a weak open in Seoul, as the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index tumbled 4.98% and the American depositary receipts of SK Hynix plunged 9.20% overnight.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index night futures closed 70 points lower at 25,371, while the night-session H-share/China concept index eased 1% to 6,256. Among ADRs, Baidu sank 11.88% after its results, Alibaba slipped 0.83%, Meituan edged down 0.30%, Tencent was flat at down 0.02% and HSBC eased 0.15%.
Taiwan's TAIEX futures near-month September contract settled the night session at 44,527, down 561 points or 1.24%, after opening at 45,137, reaching a high of 45,208 and a low of 44,424 on volume of 28,126 contracts.
