According to the BBC, Disney and ABC have filed a lawsuit seeking to block the Trump administration from starting an early broadcast licence renewal process, saying the network is being singled out over its editorial content. The suit names the Federal Communications Commission and chairman Brendan Carr, and says the regulator is being pressured to renew licences years ahead of schedule at the direction of President Donald Trump. Disney said the FCC’s order was unprecedented and noted that the commission had not sought early renewal in more than 50 years. The filing says the FCC gave ABC and Disney 30 days to submit applications, which the plaintiffs said normally take months to prepare, and asks the court for a speedy hearing and a temporary restraining order.
