This morning I glanced at the market. DUSK has recently dropped by nearly 5 percentage points, and the RSI has smashed down to around 21. But as my friends who know my posts know, the iron rule of people in my circle is just four words: “life first.” Rather than staring at candlestick charts that get you repeatedly harvested by emotions, I’m more used to jumping into code and digging through the underlying logic to find the truth.

Recently, Dusk had a cross-chain bridge security incident: a multisig wallet was hacked. A lot of people panicked when they saw the news, but when I followed through and checked, I found that its mainnet’s core protocol was not harmed in the slightest. If anything, this move made me see its real bottom card even more clearly.

Dusk’s ambition isn’t to build a simple “privacy coin.” It’s locked in on taking on a Layer-1 dedicated to financial applications. The one part I personally find most painful when writing Solidity and deploying smart contracts is that on-chain data is completely exposed. But Dusk wants to blend three things into the underlying layer: confidentiality, programmability, and regulatory compliance. For institutions working on RWA, this is an absolute must—trading “bottom cards” can’t be shown to the whole world, yet when facing regulators it still needs to support “selective disclosure” (and this is exactly where ZKPs zero-knowledge proofs get truly hardcore).

But my doubts also come from here. Not long ago, to test the limits of other chains, I was ruthless and rented a high-end “bare metal” server with dual-path EPYC and 2T of memory to run full nodes. I know firsthand how terrifying the hardware overhead for low-level verification can be. Dusk’s kind of dual-execution model, the heavy cryptographic computation costs, and the cross-chain bridge infrastructure that exposed vulnerabilities this time—none of it fails to aggressively increase the system’s complexity.

Will “old money” entry happen with just impressive privacy tech? What about developer experience— is it good? If an RPC node throws errors, can they be troubleshot quickly? How will liquidity be handled?

Right now, I keep running scenarios in my head: fundamentally, Dusk is betting that in the future, compliant financial markets will be inseparable from confidentiality at the protocol layer. But will this elegant architectural advantage be successfully translated into real institutional demand? Or will this extreme underlying complexity ultimately become a burden that slows big capital from entering? We can only find out once its mainnet is truly up and running—when it can handle high-frequency real trades and we can see the results.
