In the village of Maidan, in the Unzukul district of Dagestan, police stopped the operation of an underground mining farm organized by a 52-year-old local resident.

The crypto farm with 68 devices for mining was located in one of the warehouses, reported the Russian police. The equipment was connected to the power grids bypassing the meters directly to the power lines. According to the local energy supply company, the farm caused damage of 1.2 million rubles. The police seized the equipment, and the question of initiating a criminal case is being considered.

In the Unzukul region of the republic, law enforcement has uncovered several large crypto farms over the past two years. In the Maidan region, a farm with 105 devices was found, in Unzukul — with 95 installations, and in Balakhani — with 139 units of equipment. Just in November, raids in Maidan, Balakhani, Gimri, and Unzukul allowed the seizure of 160 devices from 30 individuals. The estimated damage is over 6.5 million rubles, the police stated.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, since the beginning of 2025, 73 cases of electricity theft by miners have been recorded in Dagestan. The total amount of consumed energy amounted to 12.6 million kWh, and the damage reached 85.7 million rubles. Dagestan accounts for 47% of all identified mining farms in the North Caucasus Federal District, as demonstrated by the digital ecosystem of MTS. For comparison, in the Stavropol Krai, this is 28%, in North Ossetia — 10%, and in Karachay-Cherkessia — 2.5%. Since January 1, 2025, the Russian authorities have imposed a complete ban on mining in Dagestan and the entire federal district.

Russian law enforcement recently dismantled a large illegal mining farm in the Urals. The damage from its activities is estimated at nearly 1 billion rubles, and 10,000 devices were seized.
