The Ethereum Foundation officially launched the Platåberget testnet as an early public testing environment for the Glamsterdam upgrade. The testnet went live on August 17 and is planned to run for several months. The Glamsterdam fork is scheduled to activate on August 20 on this network. This is not a regular devnet. Platåberget starts in a state close to mainnet, and is specifically designed to let the community experience the upgraded environment ahead of time. Key changes include built-in proposer-builder separation (ePBS), block-level access lists, gas re-pricing (target lower bound around 200 million), and increases in the maximum contract and initcode sizes to 64KiB and 128KiB, respectively. The most direct impact is at the tooling layer. Any wallets, indexers, or gas estimators that rely on hard-coded maximum gas limits will break and must be updated in advance. The Foundation clearly reminds developers to use this window to test and fix issues, so as to avoid pitfalls when the mainnet upgrade happens. The subsequent process is: community feedback is incorporated into the client, then run non-final devnet tests for exceptional scenarios, then upgrade long-running testnets such as Sepolia and Hoodi, and finally go live on mainnet.
