Odaily Planet Daily News: According to data from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, in June, the amount of U.S. Treasury securities held by foreign investors fell from $9.371 trillion in May to $9.299 trillion, a quarter-on-quarter decrease of about $72 billion. The decline was mainly driven by reductions in holdings by Japan, the UK, and China, but it still represented a 2.3% increase compared with the same period last year.
Among them, Japan’s holdings of U.S. Treasuries in June decreased 2.3% quarter-on-quarter to $1.116 trillion, remaining the top overseas holder; the UK’s holdings fell 1% to $939.9 billion. In June, net capital inflows under the U.S. Treasury trading-activity basis totaled only $6.8 billion, down from $56.6 billion in May. (Reuters)
