Contract trades are 4.1 times the spot, yet the funding rate is only +0.0023%—that’s the most interesting part of what $POL saw entering today’s leaderboard.

Spot at $0.0795, with the 24h high reaching $0.0849. It’s returned to this level and still shows +6.038%. On the surface it looks strong, but structurally it resembles a high-turnover, churn-type sentiment order: spot volume $6.85M, contracts $28.15M, with open interest hanging at 170,871,934 POL. However, the funding rate isn’t being pushed up, which suggests there are plenty of follow-up buyers, but not many longs willing to pay the premium.

I wouldn’t chase this kind of order on a breakout, and I also wouldn’t open at the mid price. I’d place a short order above $0.082 with a 3% position size. If it manages to stand back near today’s high, I’ll stop out and exit. The reason is simple: getting on the leaderboard doesn’t mean spot can keep the momentum going. Contracts heat up first, but the funding rate doesn’t. What’s more common is chop—wash and repeat. If this is truly going to turn into a sustained trend, you’d at least want to see spot volume continue expanding; otherwise, this move looks more like churn-driven volatility squeezing out emotion.
