I started looking at this part of DUSK because I realized I was focusing too much on what the network offers and not enough on what happens underneath.
A smart contract is basically a set of rules.
But writing those rules is only one part.
The network still needs to run them correctly.
On DUSK, smart contracts run through DuskVM, which provides the environment where that code is executed.
What I found interesting is that DUSK uses WebAssembly (WASM) for this execution.
In simple terms, the contract doesn’t just run anywhere.
It runs inside a controlled environment.
That matters because smart contracts can handle important things, especially when blockchain applications are dealing with financial activity.
A small mistake in how code runs can become a much bigger problem later.
So when I look at DUSK now, I don’t just think about the transaction itself.
I also think about what happens behind the transaction.
The contract has to run.
The network has to process the result.
And everyone needs to reach the same result.
That part of DUSK is easy to overlook because it isn’t as flashy as privacy.
But honestly, this is the kind of infrastructure I find more interesting the deeper I go into the project.
