Odaily Planet Daily News: Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bagheri said that after the United States violated the memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington on June 18, the so-called "60-day deadline" is no longer meaningful. Bagheri said: "There is no clause in the memorandum of understanding that mentions a '60-day deadline', and the Islamic Republic of Iran has never formulated policy under pressure, ultimatums, or time limits."
He said the memorandum originally set a 60-day period to hold negotiations on two agenda items: "lifting sanctions" and "the nuclear issue". If no agreement could be reached by then, the deadline could have been extended. However, negotiations were not launched because the United States "seriously and broadly violated" the agreement just weeks after the memorandum was signed. He added: "Therefore, the so-called 60-day deadline has completely become meaningless." (Jin 10)
