Last night, a friend of mine who does quantitative trading sent me a screenshot.
He didn’t share the coin price—he shared this week’s unlock schedule. In red, it highlights $ZRO and $KAITO . After that, he just said one thing: Lately everyone is watching this, even more often than they watch the K-line.
This thing will get attention now. It’s not exactly surprising—just because it says “unlock.”
The market is too calm, so there’s nowhere for the money to vent.
$BTC is still grinding around 63359. In the last 24 hours, the high-low range is only 63500 to 62716. To put it bluntly, even someone as stubborn with big talk and small nerves as me can’t be bothered to place a trade.
Futures, though, are hot. The last 24 hours’ trading volume is 3.48 billion, while spot is only 376 million—about a 9.3x difference.
The funding rate is only +0.0077%. And the open position is still sitting at 110687 BTC.
It feels like a room full of people sitting around waiting. Everything looks quiet on the surface, but everyone’s already got their hand on the door handle.
In times like this, whoever has clear timing will be the one the market repeatedly brings up.
On the evening of the $ZRO 20th, 25.71 million tokens will be unlocked, accounting for 4.4% of circulating supply.
The $KAITO one is even harsher: 32.60 million tokens, accounting for 7.63% of circulating supply.
Don’t underestimate these few percentage points. If you sell slowly on normal days, the market can still absorb it.
But when it’s right on time, the people holding the coins, the people waiting to buy the dip, and the ones who want to run early will all crowd at the same door, squeezing in and out.
I’ve always been cautious about this kind of unlock.
Last time, I watched an unlock schedule for a coin that didn’t look that big. I had pre-positioned spot. The price didn’t really drop much. After the unlock, it bled downward for three straight days, and I was drained until I basically threw in the towel first.
I might be wrong in some way too.
If the project’s narrative is still hot, and there are plenty of new buyers outside ready to take the coins, then the unlock might not cause trouble immediately—and instead it could turn into a “the shoe finally drops” situation.
If it were me, I’d rather watch the 4 to 12 hours after the unlock this week and only then decide whether to touch it. I won’t rush to grab that earlier move. The market flips faster than a book. Keep a bit of your position.
