Ferrari said its first fully electric Luce sold for $40 million, making it the most expensive new-car auction lot in history. According to Sina Finance, the Tailor Made version of the Luce set the record at a Sotheby’s charity auction during Monterey Car Week in California.

Ferrari said the previous record was set last year by a custom Ferrari Daytona SP3, which sold for $26 million. Ferrari launched the Luce in May at a price of 550,000 euros. The model drew criticism after its release and sent the company’s shares lower. Tailor Made is Ferrari’s high-end personalization program for creating unique vehicles to customer specifications.
