Parts of Ukrainian refugees in Poland may be able to return to free accommodation, meals, and access to medical care. This concerns a bill from the Left party, which is part of the governing coalition of Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
According to the bill, single mothers raising children will be eligible for assistance if they are not married or their partner does not live in Poland.
Separately, they propose including in the list pensioners with very low incomes. These are people whose pension does not exceed half of the minimum payment—currently about 940 zlotys, or approximately 11.3 thousand hryvnias. The initiative appeared after, starting July 1, 2026, Poland significantly narrowed the circle of Ukrainians who can use collectively housed centers free of charge and receive meals.
After the changes, this support remains mainly for the most vulnerable categories, including people with disabilities, pregnant women, and some pensioners. Importantly, this is still only a legislative proposal. The document has already been submitted to the Polish Sejm, and its consideration is expected in September.
