The Chainlink integration announcement co-developed last week by @Dusk and NPEX got my first reaction as “That makes sense.” My second reaction was “Wait—this doesn’t quite match the self-verifying system that Dusk has been emphasizing all along.”

More specifically, Dusk and NPEX decided to treat Chainlink CCIP (Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol) as the standardized cross-chain layer—used to move the tokenized securities that NPEX issues on DuskEVM between different chains. They also integrated DataLink and Data Streams as market data sources. In addition, the bridging of the $DUSK token itself from Ethereum to Solana is also achieved via Chainlink’s CCT (Cross-Chain Token) standard.

What I’ve always understood as Dusk’s core selling point is that verifiability is provided through cryptographic primitives like zero-knowledge proofs and homomorphic encryption. In other words, you don’t need to trust any intermediary—math itself is the proof. But CCIP’s underlying security model is not like that. It relies on Chainlink’s decentralized oracle network (DON): a set of independent nodes that each observe source-chain events, reach consensus, and then sign to release cross-chain messages. That means that once an asset needs to be bridged, the verification responsibility shifts from “Dusk’s own proof system” to “whether Chainlink’s DON network is honest and whether it gets compromised.”

This isn’t to say the choice is wrong—major traditional finance players like SWIFT, DTCC, and ANZ are also using CCIP, which suggests this cross-chain trust model is acceptable in institutional eyes. But for a privacy-compliance chain that repeatedly stresses “no need to trust third parties,” outsourcing the security boundary of cross-chain settlement to another oracle consensus model is a turning point that should be clearly spelled out in risk disclosures, not glossed over.

When real money needs to be settled across chains, will it be settled under Dusk’s proof system or under Chainlink’s DON? When these two trust models stack on top of each other and something goes wrong, whose responsibility is it?
