Vals AI has completed a $40 million Series A funding round at a post-money valuation of $400 million, led by Andreessen Horowitz. The company provides independent evaluation services for large AI models.

The capital round includes participation from existing investors 8VC, Pear VC, and Bloomberg Beta, along with new investors including HRT Ventures and Next Ladder Ventures.

Founded by Rayan Krishnan and Langston Nashold, Vals AI scores model outputs in real-world business scenarios with the involvement of experts in legal, finance, healthcare, programming, and many other fields.

The company uses its own testing suites, deployed in limited quantities to prevent the model from being directly trained on test data and optimized based on leaderboards. The evaluation results from Vals AI have been included in the model files of OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, and xAI.

Vals AI said that revenue in 2025 increased eightfold compared to the same period, the number of customers doubled, and the team size tripled within half a year. The company also launched a source-code evaluation tool, Vals Smith, and Vals Index 2.0, with an expanded scope covering advanced AI risks and economic measurement.
