Settlement taking two days isnt a technical limit. Its an accumulation of handoffs nobody removed.
Dusk describes the alternative in the NPEX announcement as trade settlement going from days to seconds, with cost reduction coming specifically from removing counterparty risk during clearance.
That second part is the one people skip.
The delay isnt just slow. During those two days somebody could fail, and the entire clearing apparatus exists to price and absorb that possibility.
Remove the gap and you remove what the gap was protecting against.
Speed here is a byproduct. The actual change is that a window for failure stopped existing.
So is instant settlement worth more as a cost saving, or as the removal of a risk nobody itemises?
