This news really left an impression on me: Solana, due to a routing bug, completed 86% of the journey toward losing finality. The incident was caused by a managed provider’s default route configuration going wrong, which led to nearly 29% of staked $SOL going offline; the network’s finality was only 4 percentage points away from being completely lost. Honestly, what moved me most wasn’t the bug itself, but the reality it exposed: a network that claims to be decentralized still depends heavily on centralized managed infrastructure for its key components. One configuration mistake nearly brought the entire chain to a halt. This is a reminder for me: to judge whether a chain is secure, you can’t just focus on code and consensus mechanisms—you also need to see whether the underlying infrastructure is truly decentralized enough. If decentralization exists only on paper, the risk has always been there.
