new course, new mountain to explore.... but this time the story starts with a puzzle. blockchains have existed for fifteen years, thier faster, cheaper, and more open then the creaking machinery running actual financial markets. so why are the worlds stock exchanges, bond markets, and funds still living in the old buildings?
i assumed the answer was regulation, stubbornness, suits being suits. day one of reading dusk taught me the real answer is simpler and better.... the new buildings were built with glass walls.
think about what a public blockchain publishes. every balance, every position, every counterparty, every trade size, visible to anyone forever. now imagine telling a pension fund, move your operations here, your entire portfolio will be live-streamed to your competitors. imagine telling a market maker thier inventory is public. these institutions arent avoiding blockchains becuase thier old fashioned.... thier avoiding them becuase transparency at that level is professionaly ILLEGAL for them. client confidentiality isnt a preference, its law.
so the industry stayed in its patchwork of closed systems, slow but private. and crypto kept wondering why the biggest money never arrived.
dusk is built as the building these tenants could actually occupy. privacy where needed, transparency where useful, selective disclosure when an authorized reviewer knocks, and settlement thats instantly, deterministicaly final. walls where walls belong, windows where windows belong.
fifteen days ahead of us. the question i want answered by the end, is this building actually filling up.... becuase ive learned architecture only matters when ten
ants move in (and apparently 300 million euros of them are packing boxes. more on that soon)
