In this space, “privacy” and “compliance” are often two requirements that pull against each other: the more closed off it is, the harder it is to verify; the more transparent it is, the harder it is to protect sensitive information.
What caught my attention about Dusk is how they attempt to stand between these two extremes. Privacy isn’t treated as an absolute state, but something that can be selectively opened to parties who are authorized to audit it. If it truly operates as designed, this could be a more practical way to tokenize real-world assets and place securities on-chain without forcing the organization to publicly disclose all transaction data.
DuskEVM is also a noteworthy step. Providing an EVM- and Solidity-compatible environment helps organizations, partners, and developers avoid having to start entirely from scratch. But I still retain a bit of skepticism. Technologies like homomorphic encryption or zero-knowledge proofs sound very convincing in theory, but their real value only shows up when they can withstand the pressure of real-world scale, cost, and legal requirements.
So, I don’t see Dusk as a fully finished solution, but rather as a promising experiment worth watching—one that tests whether a blockchain can be both private and controllable without sacrificing the transparency that’s necessary.
