FIDELITY PLANS TO ADD ETH STAKING AND QUARTERLY CASH PAYOUTS TO ITS ETHEREUM ETF 💎
Fidelity is preparing to introduce Ethereum staking to its Fidelity Ethereum Fund (FETH) while planning to distribute staking income to investors through quarterly cash payments. If implemented, the proposal would represent an important evolution for Ethereum ETFs by allowing the fund to generate additional yield from staking rather than simply holding ETH.
FETH currently manages approximately $898 million in assets. Under the proposal, Fidelity could stake nearly all of the ETH held by the fund while retaining a portion to satisfy redemption requests and cover ongoing operating expenses. This approach aims to preserve liquidity while maximizing the productive use of the fund's assets.
According to the proposal, Fidelity expects to retain 85% of staking rewards, while the remaining 15% would be allocated to the fund manager, the custodian, and network service providers. After deducting all associated expenses, the remaining staking income would be distributed to investors as quarterly cash payments. If additional liquidity is required for these distributions, Fidelity may also sell a portion of the ETH held by the fund.
The proposal highlights a broader trend in which traditional financial institutions are seeking to enhance returns from digital assets instead of maintaining passive exposure alone. If widely adopted, staking could become an important feature that improves the attractiveness of Ethereum ETFs by creating a recurring source of income. However, the plan must still complete the necessary regulatory and operational processes before implementation.
Do you think staking will eventually become a standard feature across most Ethereum ETFs? 🤔
