A “3x” label looks simple until you hold it for more than one day.
What matters most is not just the direction.
It’s the path.
If the underlying asset goes +10% in one day, a 3x product is designed to deliver about +30% for that day.
But that does not mean you can just stretch that logic across several days and expect a clean long-term 3x result.
Example:
* Day 1: underlying +10%
* Day 2: underlying -10%
After two days, the underlying is not flat — it goes from 100 → 110 → 99.
Now look at the 3x version:
* 100 → 130 on Day 1
* 130 → 91 on Day 2
So the underlying is down only 1%, while the 3x product is down 9%.
That gap is the whole point.
A 3x product is a daily target, not a promise of “3x the move” over any random holding period.
Once more than one day passes, daily reset and path dependency start doing the real work.
That’s why I treat this type of exposure as a short-horizon trading tool, not a “buy it and forget it” position.
If I’m holding longer than a day, I want to understand:
* how daily reset changes outcomes;
* how volatility can eat returns;
* and why “the asset came back” does not always mean my position will.
The label says 3x.
The reality says: read the path, not just the headline.
