Cash withdrawals in 170+ countries: Solana just connected not DeFi, but MoneyGram
Previously, people said Crypto is “connecting to the real world,” and often what they meant was just concepts. This time it’s much simpler: MoneyGram has connected its own cash network to Solana. Going forward, wallets and apps that support MoneyGram Ramps can convert on-chain assets into local cash, and cash can also flow into the crypto ecosystem.
More intuitive with numbers: cash top-ups currently cover 25+ countries, and cash withdrawals cover 170+ countries and regions. MoneyGram itself has 60+ million customers and nearly 500,000 offline locations. For everyday users, this can be summarized in one sentence: on-chain money is one step closer to real-world cash.
Why do I think this is more important than “Solana added another protocol”? Because large-scale real-world usage of Crypto isn’t just about how fast transfers are on-chain—it’s about whether ordinary people can easily get money in and out. For example, for cross-border remittances, freelance wages, or regions without convenient bank accounts, recipients in the future can route on-chain funds directly into MoneyGram’s cash network through supported apps.
But don’t hype it as “all Solana wallets can withdraw cash directly.” Right now, Rift is the first officially integrated wallet, and the “170+ countries” refers to cash withdrawal coverage, while cash top-ups currently cover 25+ countries. What really matters next is whether Phantom, exchanges, and more payment apps will follow by integrating.
I’d rather view this as a piece of infrastructure for Solana’s payments narrative. 【Script A】If more and more wallets and exchanges integrate, Solana will look more like a payment network connecting stablecoins to real cash; 【Script B】If in the end only a small number of applications actually use it, then this is still just an infrastructure update, and could have limited impact on SOL price.
SOL is currently around $76. Binance data shows about +0.33% over the last 24 hours. Based on the current short-term range, I’ll watch $74.5–$75 for support and $77–$78 for resistance. If it can hold above $77, I’ll turn more bullish; if it breaks below $74.5, it means this positive catalyst hasn’t translated into price strength—for now.
